could a pain in my upper back and left chest caused by my crying so hard and sadness?

I was so sad and was crying so hard, and when i woke up my upper back somewhere in my left shoulder blade hurt so bad so as my left chest.i was vacuuming prior to that night. But the muscles there are not tender like the normal muscles aches. I have shortness of breath and i can’t yawn completely because of the stabbing pain.Is this something serious or just gas?

Sounds like you got totally stressed out, what ever the matter let it go, I hope the tears helped you to release, don’t let it build up could do more harm than good.

Pains in your chest due to sadness (right around the middle, as if in your heart) are very normal. When you are stressed and sad about things, the muscles in this area tighten up and give you that "broken hearted" feeling. It can make you feel like you are short of breath, can’t yawn. The pain could feel like someone stabbing you in your chest.

As far as your back… sobbing does take energy. If you were sobbing very hard, you were probably convulsing and this affected the muscles in your back, causing them to be sore.

The only thing that will cure you is time, I’m afraid, but you can do some things to relax those sore muscles in the meantime. Take a long, soothing bubble bath. Relax. Take your thoughts out on a journal or go out with a friend over coffee and have a good talk. Make yourself over. Go shopping. (I’m assuming you’re female). Make yourself feel attractive and special. Have a spa day. Read a book. Work in the garden. If you distract yourself from the feelings (cause) of your sadness, this will help ease your pain more.

No way to know for sure. Crying hard for a long time could make those muscles sore, but then you say you are also short of breath. Shortness of breath associated with chest pain really needs to be evaluated medically because it could be cardiac. The fact that you have sharp pain is an indication that it is probably not cardiac. Because you have these symptoms I would say to err on the side of caution and go get checked out. It’s better to go to ER and burp, than risk loosing heart tissue at home. Just go get checked out, but something tells me you’ll come home cleared of cardiac problems. Still better to be safe than sorry. The only way to know for sure is to go have the appropriate tests. You’ll have an EKG and some blood work done.

It could be muscle spasms. Have you had a cold lately? Sounds like pleurisy, it could be also the way you slept on your shoulder. But crying and sadness, will not cause this, it can cause the muscle spasms, being so tense. The shortness, of breath, sounds, like pneumonia or pleurisy, May be best to see doctor over this, since, you have shortness of breath. Hope you get better soon, and hope happiness comes your way soon.

    Any of those are possibilities

More than likely, it is an intercostal muscle. They’re kind of like abs, and they are used for deep breathing when the main breathing muscles aren’t enough. Since we don’t use them often, they get sore easily. Since they are located behind and in front of the chest wall, and at the upper back shoulders, this seems to be the problem. Just rest them and stretch them and they should be good to go in a couple of days!

Pains around the left shoulder blade are , strangely enough, sometimes caused by gallstones.Only a doctor can tell. If the pain continues there, go see one.
